Modern Jazz Today Episode #131, this week our new discoveries and unearthed gems was partially a tribute to the late great Chuck Loeb, who passed away on July 31, 2017.

It is hard to believe its already been a year when the jazz genre was rocked by losing this altogether too young guitarist known to so many through his recordings. Reaching into the vault we took a look at “You Got It,” off the 2011 album Plain ‘n’ Simple.  A swinging project that built on his frequent straight-ahead gigs in New York, and with his fusion band Metro. Plain ‘n’ Simple is a trio project with Fourplay bandmate Harvey Mason on drums and Pat Bianchi on funky organ.

In the new discoveries category, this week Slowly Rolling Camera, and their new album Juniper Masterminded by Edition label boss Dave Stapleton, producer Deri Roberts and drummer Elliot Bennett, Juniper evokes deeply felt jazz grooves with pastoral soundscapes.  With the additive of guitarist Stuart McCallum, bassist Aidan Thorne and Belgian saxophonist Nicolas Kummert it is the groups most adventurous recording to date.

Let’s dig in and thank you again for supporting Modern Jazz Today and all the wonderful artists and radio stations that make this show possible.  Keep it tuned, we have more content coming your way very soon!
