Modern Jazz Today Episode #139, this week we get our jazz on with more albums that will keep them ears happy!
In the new discoveries’ category, we took a look at Jay Lawrence, a collaboration of drummer, Jay Lawrence, with many of the greatest jazz players on the scene today–John Patitucci, bass; Renee Rosnes, piano; Harry Allen, tenor saxophone; Terell Stafford, trumpet; Anthony Wilson, Yotam Silberstein, and Romero Lubambo. We dug into the track “Maria,” of the album Sonic Paragon.
In the unearthed gems category, we just can’t seem to get enough of Dexter Gordon lately. We focused on the track “Confirmation,” off the album Daddy Plays the Horn. This is available on Bethlehem Records for those Gordon fans looking to pick up a gem of a recording.
